An eraser, (also called a rubber in the UK, Ireland, India, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, named for the material eraser were first composed of) is primarily used to remove pencil writing from paper. With a rubbery consistency, variety of shapes, sizes and colours there’s an eraser for almost every medium. Less expensive erasers are made from synthetic rubber, with more expensive or specialized erasers are vinyl, plastic, or gum-like materials. There are also cheaper erasers made of synthetic soy-based gum. Although initially invented to remove pencil markings, more abrasive ink erasers were later introduced followed by a large selection of shapes sizes and special application erasers.
